Teachers as Learners
We are no longer set in a role as ‘teacher’ or ‘learner’ for we can be either or both, as we move and develop over our careers and lifetime. The theme of the 2014 Learning and Teaching Week captured the essence of the two sides to the role and, presentations addressed the following dimensions:
- Teachers as learners - our role as teachers should instil the ability and desire to become lifelong learners, we are role models for our learners. Teaching practice, grants and scholarship were shared in the week's TeachTalks, GrantTalks and TeachChats.
- Learning more about our role as teachers – sharing and developing our approach and strategies. Advance Award winners shared the core ideas and practices that were key to winning their Awards.
- Teaching as learning - learning about and researching teaching while engaged in it. Presentations on this theme looked at reflective practice, participatory action research, ethnography, mentoring, peer review etc as methodologies that support teaching as learning.
Learning and Teaching Week 2014 was held from 1-5 September at the University of the Sunshine Coast' Sippy Downs Campus.
