CMN105 The Illuminated Screen: Introduction to Film and Television Studies


This course examines the form and function of screen texts with an emphasis on film and television, and considers the impact of their cultural, historical and industrial contexts. The course develops a comprehensive understanding of screen aesthetics and how these combine with narrative to create meaning, and explores key issues around production, celebrity, transmedia storytelling and realism. You will engage with and apply technical terminology, theoretical concepts, and academic work on film and television production, acquiring the skills needed to critically analyse screen texts.
