This course provides the background to the law as it relates to the employer / employee relationship placed within the context of industrial regulation within Australia. This includes an examination of different types of employment including the distinction between contracts for, and of, service – a distinction which has implications for the applicability of industrial legislation. The course examines the operation of the Fair Work Act, its historical antecedents, and the changes it brings to workplace relations. You are introduced to the workings of unions and employer groups and to the operation and significance of awards and enterprise agreements.
