This course provides an introduction to Australian and comparative politics set in a comparative and historic context. It examines political systems and institutions, including Constitutions, federalism, political parties, parliament and the role of the executive and applies these concepts to the Australian political system. It explores the responsibilities of federal, state and local government and the roles of Prime Minister and Premiers and Cabinet. Major political themes and debates about the allocation of power are also considered.
