This program is an excellent way to complement your studies, improve your career prospects, or simply enhance your cross-cultural knowledge.

Learn Indonesian, Italian or Japanese from beginner to advanced levels. You can choose to study this program on its own, or it can be studied as the same time as your bachelor degree.

This is an eight course program and is offered part-time over a minimum two years at the Sippy Downs campus.

You can choose to complete all eight courses in one language or combine two languages with four courses each. You’ll begin with the basic structure of your chosen language and develop simple conversation skills. As you progress through the course you’ll continue to develop your listening, reading, speaking and writing skills at a more challenging level.

While completing this program you’ll have the option to gain an enriching cultural experience by studying at a reputable education institution in the country where your language is natively spoken.

This option allows you to travel to Indonesia, Italy or Japan to gain first-hand experience in the speech and culture of the country. Also, by participating this in-country study experience you’ll be able to complete your qualification in less time.

This well-rounded program also include studies on languages and linguistics in general including the history of human language, linguistic theory and socio-cultural factors affecting language use. You’ll also learn about the culture and society of your chosen country.

Career opportunities

Language proficiency enhances your ability to get a job or develop your existing career.

The following occupational areas are options for you to use this qualification: as a primary and secondary school language teacher, interpreter, translator, exporter/importer, in tourism and hospitality, journalism, subtitling, and in many governmental agencies.

Fees

The 2017 Australian Federal Budget proposes changes to fee arrangements for higher education students. If these changes are passed by the Federal Parliament, domestic students who have a completed higher education qualification and are studying Diploma or Associate Degree programs may not be eligible for Commonwealth Support from Semester 1, 2018.
