Academic Skills provides a range of free workshops which help you develop skills and strategies to enhance your learning.

You can attend as many of these workshops as you like. Choose from the list below. Workshop registration is open to all USC students across all USC campuses.

Academic Skills Workshops are run pre-semester, in orientation week and during semester.

To register for a workshop

To register for any of these workshops: 

  1. Log on as a current student in Student Hub using your USC username and password
  2. Once logged into to Student Hub under the Learning tab, navigate to Workshops and Events 
  3. Select Book workshop
  4. Search by campus or by workshop name

Learning Strategies Workshop

Learn some simple strategies to enhance your learning, improve your skills and get the most out of your tertiary studies.

Time and Task Management Workshop

Being able to manage your time effectively and efficiently is crucial to success at university, but everybody has a different combination of commitments they have to juggle. Finding the right balance, and sticking as far as possible to a plan, are the key strategies that successful students use.

  • Developed knowledge of communicating meaning (function of verbs and tenses)
  • Built skills relating to organising and connecting ideas through summarising and paraphrasing

This workshop is held over 2 days* and will help you develop skills in editing academic writing. You will learn basic rules of grammar, paragraph and sentence structure, and techniques in paraphrasing and editing.

English for Academic Study (EAS) Workshop

This two-part informal module is designed for all students (non-English speaking background and students with English as a first language) to:

  • provide English language support
  • assist in improving academic language skills

Course Objectives

By the end of these workshops you should have:

Designed for postgraduate coursework students, these workshops focus on the key skills required for postgraduate study.

By the end of these workshops you should have:

  • Enhanced awareness of balancing study requirements, critical reading and note making, academic style, essay and report writing and research skills
  • Developed knowledge of the advanced study skills required for a postgraduate course
  • Built skills relating to the various elements of academic skills for postgraduate study
  • Applied learning by practising the skills learned
