10 things to do on the Sunny Coast during the uni break

1 June 2016

There is nothing worse than growing up in a small country town and having absolutely nothing to do during the holidays. If you also come from a small hometown then you’ll know exactly what I mean.

Since moving to the coast in 2014 I now have heaps of fun things to do, but to be honest I haven't done as much as I'd like, because lets face it, uni owns us.

Not to worry though; when holidays finally roll over again, I will have you covered for your activities. Here are the top 10 cheap activities to enjoy over your break, and I say cheap because the majority of us are poor and eat two-minute noodles for dinner.

Number 1:
Rock it climbing gym: Test the means of gravity at the climbing gym in Warana. There is no time limit, so if you wish to spend all day here and leave with sore and achy hands then be my guest.

Price: $14.95 for a student
Gear hire: $5.95

Number 2:
Big Kart Track: If speed is more your thing, head down to Landsborough for the ultimate thrill ride. Let you hair down and cruise around the track or race your friends. How fast can you go?

Price: $45 for 15 minutes or $40 if you bring 12 friends.

Number 3:
Blast Aqua Park: I know it will be wintertime when the holidays hit us, but chances are it will still be warm enough to go crazy at the water park! Grab your swimmers and some sunscreen and spend the day getting wet and enjoying the sunshine.

Price: $15 for 50 minutes per person, $25 for 50 minutes two people, $45 for an all day pass.

Number 4:
Surfboard hire: Nothing says I’m free like surfing the waves or possibly getting dunked by them. If you have the guts to get up and try your luck then I salute you! You won’t be catching me anywhere near the ocean.

Price: $30 for 2 hours, $40 for 4 hours, $50 for 24 hours.

Number 5:
Camping: If you’re into the wildlife and the outdoors, then explore your inner Bear Grylls and find a nice camping spot. Somewhere that’s legal of course; otherwise it will be an expensive camping trip.

Price: It varies depending on where you go, but I guarantee it’ll be cheap - and beautiful.

Number 6:
Eumundi Markets: Who doesn’t love the markets? Eumundi is massive, offering all sorts of interesting knick-knacks. Head down on a Wednesday or Saturday and if you’re super enthused about markets it should take you most of the day.

Price: FREE! Unless you start buying things …

Number 7:
Australia Zoo: Who loves seeing cute and fluffy animals that make your heart melt? If you do then purchase your tickets and spend a day at the zoo; it’s time to get in touch with your inner animal.

Price: Student $47 for a day pass

Number 8:
Skate Away: Challenge yourself on the ice and experience what winter is supposed to feel like. Who has what it takes to stay upright on the ice?

Price: $10 - $15 plus skate hire

Number 9:
Mountain climbing: If you dare, try your fitness skills on Mount Coolum, Tibrogargan or even Beerwah. Just don’t FaceTime your family on the cliff side; they will not be happy and I know this from experience.

Price: FREE

Number 10:
Underwater World: Forget about the surface we walk on and enter into an underwater wonderland. You can add in more experiences if you enjoy the underwater world. If you wanted to dig into your budget, then you could swim with the sharks! It would be an experience of a lifetime.

Price: $30 or $27.50 online

There it is all my fun and adventurous uni peers. Now you have no excuse to hibernate in the house these June holidays! Capture your adventures, because the world we live in is absolutely stunning.
