Preparing for study at SCHI

Breadcrumbs

Studying at the Sunshine Coast Health Institute (SCHI) this semester? If so, make sure you're covered before you start.

Mandatory online training modules

You must complete your mandatory online training modules before classes start as part of your SCHI onboarding, following the instructions below.

Even if you have studied at SCHI before, some of the mandatory training modules you previously completed expire every 12 months and must be updated to ensure compliancy.

Your SCHI Security ID card

SCHI students will need an SCHI Security ID card in addition to a USC student ID card.

You can be issued with your SCHI Security ID card once you have completed your online training modules. Find out how to get your card below.

Please note: Once you've been issued with your SCHI Security ID card, please do not dispose of it until you no longer need it for placement at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH), or for access to SCHI again as part of your program.

SCHI facilities and parking options

Explore your parking options and get to know the wide range of facilities SCHI has to offer to support you in your studies. Information below.

We wish you the very best with your studies.

How to complete your compulsory training modules

You are required to complete the following mandatory online training before classes start:

  • First Response Evacuation Instructions and Emergency Colour Codes
  • Conduct and Ethics
  • Fraud Awareness
  • Welcome to Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH)

A week prior to classes commencing you will receive an email in your student email account from the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service (SCHHS) Learning Management System (LMS Team) prompting you to:

  • Log in to the Learning Management System (LMS) (open in Mozilla Firefox) using your new LMS username and password.
  • You will then be prompted to change your password.
  • Complete the above four mandatory modules.

You will receive an email in your student email account from the Learning Management System (LMS) Team (which replaced 'iTransition') advising you when the below modules are due to be updated. If your online training modules are due for renewal, please ensure you update the mandatory requirements by the renewal due date. If you don't, it will prevent you from participating in your SCHI courses:

  • First Response Evacuation Instructions and Emergency Colour Codes
  • Conduct and Ethics
  • Fraud Awareness

Returning students - Mandatory training

Students returning after 12 months will not receive an email from LMS (Learning Management System), but are required to complete the expired modules prior to commencement of classes at SCHI. Please logon to LMS and check your training transcript to identify which modules need to be completed again.

Students returning to SCHI within 12 months will not receive an email from LMS and do not need to redo their training.

If you need technical assistance or log on details please contact the LMS Team.

General Evacuation Instructions - additional mandatory requirement - first week at SCHI

The General Evacuation Instructions is an additional SCHI mandatory requirement. This must be completed each time you are enrolled in classes at SCHI even if within 12 months.

This will be delivered by your Course coordinator in Week 1 as part of your first class. Following this, you will need to log in to the Sonia Online system within two days to complete and submit the eForm as proof that you have received these instructions. View how to login to Sonia Online and complete the eForm (General Evacuation Instruction). If you require further assistance please contact the Sonia Support Team.

If you don’t attend the class in Week 1, complete the General Evacuation Instructions online by logging in to Sonia Online and view the General Evacuation Instructions PowerPoint (embedded in form) and complete the electronic form.

How to get your SCHI Security ID card

After you have completed the above modules AND have received an email from Hospital Security (SCUH.ID.Cards) advising that your card is ready for printing,  you must provide a printed copy of your mandatory training modules completion transcript to Hospital Security staff at their office on the ground floor of the main hospital building, view map. Your SCHI Security ID card will only be printed once this is sighted. Hospital Security hours of business: 0600-1600.

Please note you may experience delays during peak times in receiving email details from both the LMS and Hospital Security Teams.

TIP: your SCHI access card will only work if you keep the pouch away from all other cards/papers due to sensitive SCHI access card readers.

Parking at SCHI

Find out about SCHI parking for students and the pre-booking option for all day $5 parking (plus $1 administration fee each time you book) at Oceanside Car Park.

All other car parking at SCHI is based on a user-pays system. If you park in P1 make sure you enter via the public entry lane so you are only charged for the length of your stay. If you enter via staff entry lanes you will be charged for a full day regardless of your length of stay.
