Jenna – Nutrition and Dietetics

"Prior to beginning university, I had no idea of what I wanted to do for a career. I spent my time working in the tourism and fitness industry in Hobart, Tasmania and backpacking around Europe, Thailand, and Australia whenever the piggy bank was full enough.

"At the age of 22, my passion for nutrition science and my desire to help close the health gap seen throughout Australia motivated me to seek further education and commence a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics. I entered USC through a Bachelor of Nutrition. University was something that I had never considered prior to my current degree, so I did not complete year 11 and 12 and therefore did not meet the required entry rank for dietetics. In my second year of studies, I transferred over to a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics with the required grades. Nutrition and Dietetics was not offered in my home state (Tasmania), so I decided to move to the Sunshine Coast and give university a red-hot crack! I couldn’t be happier with my decision.

"At the end of my degree, I hope to make a positive difference by helping others, those from less advantaged backgrounds and at-risk populations. My dream job would be working in a regional or rural setting as a clinical or community dietitian with Indigenous Australians. Other interests include psychology and public health and I aspire to undertake postgraduate studies after gaining some practical experience. I hope my learning experience never ends."
