Applying for a Postgraduate Research Scholarship


Step 1: Find a scholarship

Visit HDR Scholarships to browse postgraduate research scholarships currently open for applications. Note the title of the scholarship you wish to be considered for so that you can include this on your application form.

Please note, applications for Research Training Program Scholarships (formerly Australian Postgraduate Awards [APA] and International Postgraduate Research Scholarships [IPRS] ) will only be accepted while that scholarship round is open. Please see the below table for more information on dates.

Step 2: Prepare an application form and supporting documents

Prepare your application according to the information located on the page of the scholarship ad for which you are applying.

Please ensure you submit:

  • PGRS Application form
  • Responses to selection criteria
  • Supporting documentation

If you are not already a HDR student at USC you can indicate the PGRS * you wish to apply for on your Application for Admission 

Note: If you wish to apply for an RTP  Scholarship please note that to be eligible you must have an Offer for Admission or be a Current Student. You must use the RTP Application Form and may apply only during the RTP Round: 1–15 October 2018.

Important information

The Selection of Candidates for Postgraduate Research Scholarships - Guidelines (PDF 476KB) * provides details on the standard selection criteria used to rank your application in order of merit. It is recommended you are familiar with the content to assist in the preparation of your strongest possible application for scholarship. Please do not submit your application until you have read this important document as you may submit an incomplete or incorrect application.

As per the Guidelines, International Scholarships may only be awarded to students undertaking research in an area identified by USC as a research concentration. Further detail on USC's Research Centres and Clusters is available at Research and innovation.

Step 3: Submit your application by the scholarship closing date

Information on scholarship closing dates is provided on the scholarship ad. You must submit your complete application by the closing date in order to be considered.
