Sonny Granger's Confirmation Presentation

We invite you to attend the Confirmation Presentation of Sonny Granger, a Master of Creative Arts candidate within the School of Communication and Creative Industries, in the Faculty of Arts, Business and Law.

Title: Dirty Deeds: the ACDC story

Presenter: Sonny Granger

When: Tuesday 29 May from 2-4pm

Where: Building E, 1.03

Abstract: The Men of AC/DC is a narrative biography that presents the story of the iconic musicians in a biographical form but in a unique way.

Traditionally band biographies are factually driven written for fan audiences who use the genre as a means to vicariously get closer to the iconic personages behind the music they have identified with (Firth, 1983, p272). In contrast, novels are imaginatively constructed a, culturally derived from fictional or non-fictional settings.

This creative project aims to marry the two genres in an attempt to present a biography that uses narrative technique in order to move away from fan voyeuristic intentions and also away from the notion of the fall of the artist as evoked through conventions of Aristotelian tragedy. Through the deployment of biofiction in this populist genre space, the research focus is on; capturing the zeitgeist and its imbrication in masculinist and Australian working-class cultural history. The focus of the story will be quite class focused and quotidian, signalling the ordinary complication of the human endeavour.

Bio: Sonny Granger is studying for a Masters of Creative Arts. She currently works as the Head of English at a high school on the Sunshine Coast. She has published two school text books and occasionally writes for commercial magazines.
