Chloe Grabs studying a Bachelor of Health Science whilst competing professionally in Archery at USC Sunshine Coast

My name is Chloe Grabs and I am currently studying a Bachelor of Health Science with an extended major in Prosthetics and Orthotics. I also have a degree in Sport and Exercise Science and I compete in archery!

I tried archery for the first time in 2012 when my friend wanted to try it for her 18th birthday and I thought it was really fun. After about a year, my coach Lynette told me I should buy my own bow and consider properly competing. Within 12 months of that I had qualified for my first international tournament and was a national champion! Since then I have represented Australia about 6 times in various countries all while studying at USC. Without the help of the HPSA program this would have been difficult as my training schedule can get a bit crazy! At its worst I was training over 30 hours a week shooting, doing 2 gym sessions (thanks to help from USC sport) all whilst studying part time and working as a sports medic! The HPSA Program has helped by providing an ease in communicating with our tutors if we need extensions or some extra help!

My biggest advice for new athletes to the program is to get good at managing your time and to talk to your tutors early if you need any help with extensions due to competitions.
