MEET OUR PARALYMPIC REPRESENTATIVES

We are so proud of our athletes competing in the Paralympic Games from 24 August. They include current students, recent graduates and members of USC's High Performance sporting teams. Most have been or currently are members of the University's High Performance Student Athlete program.

KATJA DEDEKIND

Swimmer competing in 50m freestyle, 100m backstroke and 400m freestyle (26 August – 29 August). Classification: S13, SB13, SM13. Member of USC Spartans swimming club. Studying a USC Bachelor of Arts.

Highlights 

2019 – Finished 6th in 100m backstroke and 6th in 100m freestyle at World Para Swimming Championships in London

2018 – Won gold in 100m backstroke, silver in 400m freestyle, and bronze in the 200m individual medley at the Pan Pacific Championships in Cairns

2017 – Selected for World Para Swimming Championships in Mexico but event was postponed due to an earthquake

2016 – Won bronze in 100m backstroke and finished 7th in 400m freestyle at the Rio Paralympics

BEN HANCE

Swimmer competing in 100m butterfly, 100m backstroke and mixed 4x100m freestyle relay (25 August – 2 September). Classification: S14, SB14, SM14. Member of USC Spartans swimming club.

Highlights

2021 – Set world record for 100m backstroke (S14) at the Australian Swimming Trials in Adelaide

ALISTAIR DONOHOE

Cyclist competing in 4km Individual Pursuit, Team Sprint, Road Time Trial, Road Race (26 August – 3 September). Classification: C5. Member of USC-based Pro Racing Sunshine Coast team.

Highlights

2019 – Won gold in individual pursuit and gold in scratch race at World Championships in the Netherlands

2018 – Won gold in road race at World Championships in Italy

2016 – Won silver in 4km individual pursuit, silver in road time trial and finished 5th in road race at Rio Paralympics

2016 – Won silver in 4km individual pursuit, bronze in time trial and bronze in scratch race at World Championships in Italy

ELLIE COLE

Swimmer competing in 400m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 4x100m medley relay, 4x100m freestyle relay (25 August – 3 September). Classification: S9, SWB8, SM9. Former member of USC Spartans swimming club who graduated with a cross-institutional degree while at USC.

Highlights

2019 – Won silver in 100m backstroke, bronze in 400m freestyle, and finished 4th in 100m freestyle at the World Swimming Championships in London

2018 – Won silver in 100m backstroke and bronze in 100m freestyle at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast

2016 – Won gold in 100m backstroke, gold in 4x100m freestyle relay, silver in 50m freestyle, silver in 400m freestyle, silver in 4x100m freestyle relay and bronze in 100m freestyle at the Rio Paralympics

2012 – Won gold in 100m backstroke, gold in 100m freestyle, gold in 4x100m freestyle relay, gold in 4x100m medley relay and bronze in 50m freestyle at London Paralympics

2008 – Won silver in 100m butterfly, bronze in 400m freestyle, bronze in 100m backstroke at Beijing Paralympics.

Blake cochrane

Swimmer competing in 100m breaststroke (1 September). Classification: S8, SB7, SM8. Member of USC Spartans swimming club. Graduated in 2020 with a USC Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Science.

Highlights

2019 – Won bronze in 100m breaststroke and finished sixth in 400m freestyle at World Para Swimming Championships in London

2018 – Won silver in 200m individual medley and bronze in 100m breaststroke at Commonwealth Games on Gold Coast

2016 – Won silver in 100m breaststroke at Rio Paralympics 

2012 – Won gold in 100m breaststroke and gold in the 4x100m freestyle relay at the London Paralympics

2008 – Won silver in 100m breaststroke at the Beijing Paralympics

HANNAH DODD

Competing in wheelchair basketball carnival (25 August – 5 September). Classification: 1.0. Graduated from USC in 2019 with a Bachelor of Health Science and was a member of USC’s High Performance Student Athlete program.

Highlights

2018 – Member of the Australian team that finished 9th at World Championships in Germany

2015 – Won silver with The Devils national under 25 team at the World Championships in China

2012 – Competed at the London Games in two equestrian events

CHRIS BOND

Competing in wheelchair rugby carnival (25 August – 29 August). Classification: 3.5. Receives coaching advice and training from USC’s High Performance Sport staff.

Highlights

2018 – Was a member of the Australian team that finished as runner-up to Japan in the IWRF Wheelchair Rugby World Championship in Sydney

2016 – Won gold in wheelchair rugby with the Australian Steelers at Rio Paralympics

2014 – Was a member of the Australian team that became world champions at the IWRF Wheelchair Rugby World Championship in Denmark

2012 – Won gold in wheelchair rugby with the Australian Steelers at London Paralympics

Keira Stephens

Swimmer competing in 50m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 4x100m medley relay, 200m individual medley. (25 August – 3 September). Classification: S10, SM10, SB9. Member of USC Spartans swimming club. Studying a USC Diploma in Social and Human Services.

Highlights

2019 – Finished 4th in 100m breaststroke, fifth in 4x100m medley, 6th in 200m individual medley and 8th in 50m freestyle at World Para Swimming Championships in London.

2018 – Won silver in 100m breaststroke at the Pan Pacific Championships in Cairns

BraedAn Jason

Swimmer competing in 100m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 100m butterfly (27 August ­– 3 Sept). Classification: S12, SB12, SM12. Member of USC Spartans swimming club. Graduated in 2020 with a USC Bachelor of Journalism.

2019 – Finished 4th in 400m freestyle, 6th in 100m butterfly, 6th in 50m freestyle, and 6th in 4x100m freestyle relay at World Para Swimming Championships in London

2018 – Won gold in 400m freestyle, gold in 100m butterfly, and gold in 50m freestyle at Pan Pacific Championships in Cairns
