Richard (Rick) Finch

Boxing (January 2004)

Rick was the golden boy of Australian amateur boxing over a six-year period from 1980. He fought his way to the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and the Edinburgh Commonwealth Games in 1986, where he won a silver medal- a crowning moment in his career.

While injury hampered the stylish middleweight in the prime of his career, he still managed to win the only two national championships he contested (1983/1985) and was named boxer of the tournament at the 1985 Australian titles. Finch also won the 1986 Presidents Cup, was twice crowned Oceania Champion and took silver at the Japan Cup. He is a champion with every measurement.
