Andrew Watkins

Andrew commenced with the Sunshine Coast Mind & Neuroscience Thompson Institute in January 2020.

Holding a passion for mental health service delivery, Andrew joins the Thompson Institute with over 20 years of clinical and translational work in public mental health services. He has extensive experience in adult and youth mental health services.

 Andrew’s main area of interest is addressing the physical health care inequities that people with a mental illness experience. He co-established and led for 6 years the globally renowned ‘Keeping the Body in Mind’ service, a lifestyle intervention program for people experiencing severe mental illness.

 Kindled by the social injustices that people with mental illness experience around their physical health. Andrew is currently completing his PhD on physical health care for people experiencing a mental illness. He has over 30 peer reviewed journal publications and book chapters. Andrew is also a national ambassador for Equally Well.
