Dr Josephine Nocillado

I conduct research to understand the molecular, hormonal and environmental regulation of reproduction in aquaculture species. My recent work has focused on large, late-maturing fish, such as the Southern bluefin tuna (Thunnus maccoyii), yellowtail kingfish (Seriola lalandi) and giant grouper (Epinephelus lanceolatus). One of the specific aims of my research is to develop non-invasive and environmentally friendly technologies to advance maturation and ensure consistent reproduction of these species in captivity. This aim extends to my current project in sea cucumbers, a severely depleted species whose reproductive biology is yet to be fully elucidated. I utilise a range of molecular and physiological techniques, both in vitro and in vivo, in achieving the aims of my research work.
