The TeXt Files: Introduction to Cultural Studies
AUS 120 (Offering: 2003)

Description

This course explores how various media (including television, film, advertising, literature, music videos and magazines) communicate with audiences in different cultural contexts and the messages that audiences interpret. The course explores a range of texts including films, television shows, advertisements, magazines and poetry to examine their structure and ideological positioning. Students are asked to read novels by some of last century's leading novelists and watch music videos from contemporary artists. Students will also learn to think critically and to apply different types of theories to these texts and construct written and oral analyses from book, film, and television reviews to critical essays.
