Aquaculture
ENS 371 (Offering: 2003)

Description

Aquaculture is not only a rapidly expanding commercial production industry but also incorporates a wide range of both scientific and applied knowledge and skills. To reflect the broad intellectual and practical skills base required in aquaculture, the course is designed to provide students with an overview of major aquaculture issues covering biological, physico-chemical and environmental aspects of farming aquatic species.

The Faculty of Science has recognised the substantial benefits of collaborative teaching with applied research institutions. In the field of aquaculture, the DPI Aquaculture Research Centre at Bribie Island has been identified as a significant provider of specialised knowledge, skills and industry-focused research expertise in the region. This was formally recognised in a Memorandum of Understanding between the University of the Sunshine Coast and DPI Bribie Island. In recognition of the important role that applied research and industry experience plays in providing competency-based education and training, this course has been developed jointly by the Faculty of Science and Bribie Island Aquaculture Research Centre.
