Description
Why do cultures distinguish people on the basis of gender and what do gender differences mean in the everyday lives of women and men? The cross-cultural perspectives offered in this course challenge the assumption that the characteristics and behaviours commonly associated with femininity and masculinity in the West are natural, biological or unchangeable. Cross-cultural perspectives highlight the enormous range of features attributed to masculinity and femininity and show that while gender inequality often appears to be universal, the essential differences between men and women are no greater than the differences among them
