The Thompson Institute has been funded by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation to lead the Sunshine Coast Local Drug Action Team (SCLDAT). SCLDAT is focused on working with the community to raise awareness of and reduce the harms associated with alcohol use during pregnancy, and to support families impacted by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders.

2019 Community Training Events
  • FASD Train it Forward - a free community awareness event to increase understanding of the complexity of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders and the effect across communities and how to support individuals living with FASD
  • FASD Diagnosis Workshop - designed for professionals wishing to develop a deeper understanding and skills in FASD assessment and diagnosis
2018 Community Forum

SCLDAT held a community forum on the 3 September 2018 to capture the knowledge and experience of community members to guide the development of the local action plan. The forum was facilitated by Michelle Walker and included:

  • Welcome to Country by Kerry Neil
  • Opening speech by Andrew Wallace MP, Member for Fisher
  • Presentations by Louise Gray (NoFASD), Heather Jones (Telethon Kids), Dr Heidi Webster (Child Development Service), and Aunty Judy Shea (Aboriginal community elder)
  • A discussion by participants on key priorities for the Sunshine Coast
  • Key points were captured in a graphic recording by Phil Judd, Curious Minds
