Chérie McGregor is a mental health Lived Experience systems change advocate with extensive experience working within clinical, community and academic settings since 2010. Prior to focusing her career on Lived Experience advocacy, Chérie worked in community and sector development in community and local government agencies across rural Queensland and New South Wales from 1995.
As Consumer Services Coordinator, Chérie is responsible for facilitating opportunities for engaging people with Lived Experience of using mental health services to lead education for mental health professionals and be involved in research. She also designs and delivers community education programs focused on peer support and self-advocacy. Her professional practice is informed by continuous engagement with people who use mental health services and her personal experiences as a ‘consumer’ and ‘carer’. She is committed to dialogical praxis and participatory approaches for encouraging dialogue (between people who use and work in mental health services), promote critical thinking, value diversity, and celebrate personal growth achieved through overcoming psychological crisis.
