Studying overseas

Travel overseas, experience different cultures and get a degree – at the same time.

You don't have to choose between uni and travel. Spend one or two semesters abroad at one of more than 70 partner institutions, or take the opportunity to complete a placement or internship overseas. There are scholarships and grants available to help with the cost.

Dave – Norway

Bachelor of Environmental Science student Dave recently spent 6 months in Sogndal, Norway, where he studied Outdoor Education and Nordic Friluftsliv (a Norwegian term for an outdoor way of life).

Raymart – Japan

During his student life at USC, Raymart has been to a global conference in Las Vegas, used equipment that resembles “alien technology” in Italy and is now studying in Hokkaido, Japan.

Jess – Indonesia

In late 2017, Jess and 20 of her fellow nursing students travelled to Indonesia for a three-week clinical placement, helping to deliver healthcare to five remote villages around central Java’s Dlingo district.

Who can study overseas?

Eligibility depends on the USC degree you choose, and whether you want to do a semester abroad or a short-term overseas program.

Semester programs

Many USC degrees allow you to complete a semester (or two!) overseas. The earliest you can apply to study overseas is in the second year of your degree – you need to have completed at least 8 courses before you can submit an application apply. Other eligibility requirements also apply.

Short-term programs

Short-term programs can include things like work placements, internships, professional placements, study tours, and in-country language studies.

Recent opportunities have included Paramedic Science students completing a clinical placement in Nepal, Engineering students working on sustainability projects in Munich, Law students visiting the United Nations General Assembly in Geneva, and Environmental Science and Ecology students undertaking fieldwork in Greater Yellowstone National Park, USA.

There are new opportunities popping up all the time, and you'll learn about them as you study.
