The Macquarie Dictionary is the University's default reference for spelling.

A

  • Aboriginal — adjective, upper case in all uses of the word
  • adviser — not advisor, but advisory
  • affect — affect is the verb, to act upon or influence
  • after — not subsequently, following
  • AHEGS — Australian Higher Eduction Graduation Statement
  • ALTC — Australian Learning and Teaching Council
  • alternative entry — use instead of mature-age
  • am — no punctuation and no space between the time and 'am'
  • application form — lower case
  • AQF — Australian Qualifications Framework
  • ARC — Australian Research Council
  • Associate Professor — do not abbreviate, use Dr after the first reference of Associate Professor

  • Bachelor — degree (capitalise for specific degree reference)
  • bachelor’s degree — not bachelors, bachelor degree courses (use lower case for generic reference)
