City Life: How animals survive (and thrive) in urban areas - Redcliffe

Urban sprawl is often perceived as dead zones for biodiversity; however many animals have managed to learn and adapt to live alongside us in our suburbs and cities. How do they do this? And how can we make our cities friendlier to wildlife, reaping the ecological (and health!) benefits of promoting harmony with our furry, feathered, or scaly neighbours?

UniSC’s Dr Dominique Potvin will discuss her work on urban animals, including recent research on Moreton Bay’s ibis populations, and tackle some of the challenges of sharing our city habitats with Australia’s native fauna.

About Dr Potvin:

Dr Dominique Potvin is a Senior Lecturer in Animal Ecology, and an expert in animal behaviour, acoustics, ecology, and evolution. She has held academic positions across Australia, Canada and Finland, researching animal adaptations to city life, especially in birds.
