Victor Oguomo

Associate Professor Victor Oguoma (BSc, MScPH, PhD, MBiostat) is an epidemiologist and biostatistician, and a member of the Let’s Yarn About Sleep Program at the Thompson Institute. Dr Oguoma completed his public health PhD studies in cardiometabolic disease epidemiology at Charles Darwin University, a Master of Biostatistics degree from Macquarie University through the prestigious Biostatistics Collaboration of Australia program, a Master of Public Health, and a Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Medical Parasitology specialty) at Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

Since 2017, he has led and contributed to the design, implementation, and analysis of large-scale randomised controlled trials and epidemiological studies in the Indigenous populations of Australia, sub-Saharan Africa, and diverse populations in Kuwait across disciplines - cardiovascular, diabetes, sleep, ear, and respiratory diseases. He has over 15 years of experience in clinical, public health, epidemiological, and applied biostatistics research across sectors - non-governmental organisations and academia in Australia, Africa, and the Middle East.

Dr Oguoma is passionate about advancing health equity and outcomes through biostatistics, epidemiology, and culturally inclusive methods. In collaboration with other researchers, Dr Oguoma has attracted over AU$18.5M in competitive National Health & Medical Research Council (NHMRC), the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF), and International-funded collaborative research grants as Chief Investigator since 2017. He has over 60 published works in peer-reviewed journals of national and international reputation and serve on the Editorial Board of the Australian Journal of Rural Health as Associate Editor.
