Honorary Doctorate (October 2013)

John Mainwaring was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in October 2013 in recognition of his significant and sustained contribution to excellence in architectural design in developing distinctive sub-tropical and tropical architecture, and philanthropy.

John Mainwaring is a renowned Sunshine Coast architect and philanthropist who has developed and shared 40 years of professional experience as an architect. John is recognised as a world leader in his field and his company, ‘JMA Architects’, is recognised internationally for its excellence in architectural design and consultancy. John is the recipient of many citations and commendations for his work in all aspects of the architectural industry including the Sir Zelman Cowan Award, Australia’s highest architectural award, for co-designing the University’s iconic Library building. John is a patron of the arts and avid art collector who donated his private art collection to the University making it available to the public. John’s art donation and written volumes, which have been published nationally and internationally, are both valuable contributions to the cultural evolution of the campus.
