SafeZone is a free app connecting staff and students to SafeUniSC Security and emergency services on campuses, facilities, and select locations worldwide.
In emergencies, the app lets you share your location and details with SafeUniSC Security for prompt assistance. You can also call Emergency Services directly through the app.
Getting started
- Download the SafeZone app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and complete the sign-up process to register.
- All UniSC staff, students, and affiliates are pre-registered for SafeZone. UniSC can send emergency notifications to your mobile and email even if you don’t download the app.
- To access full app features and receive in-app notifications, download and complete your registration.
Features
- First aid: Request first aid assistance easily, with officers coming directly to you and accessing any shared medical information via the app.
- Contact SafeUniSC security: Quickly reach the Security team for assistance, escorts, access, support, or incident reporting without needing to remember phone numbers.
- Wellbeing assistance: Access UniSC’s tailored wellbeing support and information 24/7 based on your location and time of day.
- Make a report: Report non-urgent incidents, suspicious activity, concerning behavior, or hazards anonymously, with options to share images, videos, and precise locations.
- Emergency notifications: Receive timely alerts about campus emergencies, safety instructions, and where to find further information.
Phone settings
- Allow Location Services during installation for effective use. SafeZone only shares your location when you raise an alert, check-in, or use the timer feature. The app is optimized to minimize battery usage.
- SafeZone requires an internet connection on your mobile device to function.
Privacy
- SafeZone respects your privacy. Your location is only shared when you use alerts, check-in features, or submit a location-based tip.
- User data is protected under Federal and State Privacy Laws. Learn more through SafeZone’s privacy provisions or their video on protecting your privacy.
Opting out of pre-registration
- Submit an online form to opt out.
- Opting out removes your data from the app, stops app-based notifications, and limits emergency communication to less effective methods.
- Re-register anytime by contacting SafeUniSC Security or submitting the form again.
