Dr Peter de Wet: Investigator, General Medicine
Dr Peter de Wet graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 2012 and began his medical career with an internship at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. He advanced to the role of Principal House Officer, specialising in orthopaedics, before transitioning to the Sunshine Coast to undertake locum work. During this period, he gained valuable experience in general medicine and developed a keen interest in clinical trials, which added depth to his practice.
Since 2016, Dr de Wet has been dedicated to advancing innovative treatments and improving patient outcomes at UniSC Clinical Trials. His interests are centred on rheumatology and dementia, where he finds fulfillment in contributing to the development of groundbreaking therapies.
Dr de Wet is highly regarded for his commitment to quality and precision in clinical research. He values the organisation's culture of collaboration and its rigorous approach to ensuring quality data and impactful results. As part of this, he enjoys engaging in early feasibility assessments with sponsors, where his insights help inform how trials are designed to enhance their effectiveness for all involved.

Dr Alessandra Francesconi: Investigator, General Medicine and Oncology
Dr. Alessandra Francesconi is an experienced oncology specialist with nearly 20 years of expertise who joined UniSC Clinical Trials in 2024 . As a Principal Investigator, she applies her comprehensive oncology background and previous experience as a Research Fellow on oncology trials to now oversee clinical trials led by UniSC. Her experience extends across a wide range of therapeutic areas, including oncology, general medicine and common conditions such as diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, neurological disorders and rheumatological diseases.
Having transitioned from the high-pressure of oncology practice, Dr Francesconi values the structured and collaborative nature of the clinical trials industry. She enjoys working alongside highly skilled and dedicated professionals, and contributing to a team dynamic that drives excellence. While clinical trials may not be the typical career path for many medical professionals, she highlights the unique opportunities the field provides for individuals from diverse medical disciplines to contribute meaningfully.
Dr Francesconi is particularly enthusiastic about the future of UniSC Clinical Trials, with the planned expansion of new local clinics like the new Maroochy Private Hospital providing in-patient and confinement facilities that will further advance clinical research, facilitate complex trials and improve patient outcomes.

A/Prof Daevyd Rodda : Investigator, Orthopaedic
A/Prof Daevyd Rodda is a globally recognised and highly experienced orthopaedic surgeon, specialising in hip and knee replacement procedures. With an emphasis on minimally invasive techniques, he is a pioneer in anterior approach hip replacement and patient-specific, robotic, kinematically aligned knee replacements. Daevyd performs a high volume of these complex surgeries each year.
A/Prof Rodda is not just a skilled surgeon but also a sought-after mentor in the field of joint replacement surgery. He is the only surgeon on the Sunshine Coast to supervise an international fellowship in anterior hip and knee replacement surgery. This prestigious role involves training orthopaedic surgeons, both locally and internationally, in advanced techniques for several months under his guidance.
Driven by his passion for innovation, research and education, Daevyd has formed a partnership with the University of the Sunshine Coast. He is currently engaged in multiple research papers, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical trials and is instrumental in creating a Graduate Certificate Program in Anterior Hip Replacement. This collaborative effort involves prominent joint replacement surgeons from Australia and an international panel of world-leading experts in anterior hip replacement surgery.

He leads a multidisciplinary team that provides the most advanced surgical and non-surgical treatments available. He consistently delivers world-class surgical results with a compassionate and caring demeanour. A/Prof Joseph Coory: Investigator, Orthopaedic
A/Prof Joe Coory is an experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon in the Sunshine Coast with subspecialty fellowship training. He has a special interest in surgery of the Shoulder and Upper Limb including Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair, Shoulder Stabilisation, Total Shoulder Replacement, complex trauma reconstruction as well as minimally invasive nerve decompressions of the upper limb such as Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release.
After completing his Orthopaedic surgical training in Australia, A/Prof Coory undertook additional subspecialty training being awarded the prestigious Bateman Orthopaedics Advanced Arthroplasty and Trauma fellowship. During this time he has developed additional skills in complex reconstruction of the shoulder, elbow and knee. This included tendon transfers for irrepairable rotator cuff tears and managing both primary and revision joint replacement.
As a leading shoulder surgeon Sunshine Coast, A/Prof Joe Coory is committed to providing the highest level of care. He has extensive research experience, with publications in both the non-operative management of shoulder pain and operative techniques. A/Prof Coory continues to actively contribute to research to ensure his patients benefit from the latest advancements in shoulder surgery and optimal surgical outcomes. He is also a valued research partner with the University of the Sunshine Coast.
