Forestry in a nature-positive economy: Meet the panel, Steve Walker

At UniSC’s Forest Research Institute Public Lecture on October 15 — Forestry in a Nature-Positive Economy — thought leaders will come together to explore how investing in nature can be more than just an ethical choice: it can be smart business. One of the panellists is Steve Walker, Principal of Terrafolia Advisory, who brings three decades of global forestry experience to this stage.

Having steered plantation management at scale, built supply chains across continents, and advised on carbon, climate, and regional development, Steve offers a unique perspective that bridges the boardroom and the forest. His background spans the very local level of forest operations through to global trade and investment.

Join him and other experts at UniSC's Moreton Bay campus on 15 October to hear how forests are becoming natural capital assets — poised not only to preserve biodiversity but to help drive climate solutions and economic opportunity in Australia and beyond.

Bio:

Steve Walker is a forester and strategic leader with three decades of experience in Australia, New Zealand and internationally. He has overseen plantation management at scale in two countries, led multi-million-tonne wood supply programs, and developed supply chains linking forestry assets in Australia, New Zealand, South America and USA with key markets in China, Japan and India.

Today, as Principal of Terrafolia Advisory Pty Ltd, he partners with investors, processors and governments on plantation expansion, carbon markets and regional development. Steve holds an MBA, is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and chairs the University of the Sunshine Coast's Australian Forest and Wood Innovations (AFWI) Hub Steering Committee.

Steve says conversations like this matter, because they "bring together the science, policy and investment leadership needed to build a nature-positive economy."

"In Queensland, the work of the UniSC Forest Research Institute and the Department of Primary Industries (Queensland) Forestry Timber Action Plan is setting the pace, while the International Sustainable Forestry Coalition is shaping global investment," he says.  "I’m excited to add my voice to this dialogue and support the outstanding work of others who are showing that investing in nature is also investing in our future prosperity.”

We invite you to join the Forest Research Institute, Dr David Brand, plus an expert panel, to discuss 'Forestry in a nature-positive economy.' Hosted at UniSC's Moreton Bay campus, this free event will be an excellent opportunity to network with colleagues in industry, government, research and academia working towards nature-positive solutions in the forestry sector.
