Melanie embarked on her academic journey in 2019, commencing a Master’s Degree before upgrading to a PhD in human geography, with an anticipated completion date in late 2023. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in geography with a minor in biology, as well as a Bachelor of Secondary Education.

Melanie’s career has spanned a variety of industries including teaching, outdoor education, tourism, and marine tourism predominantly on islands in the Great Barrier Reef region. Her interest in nutrition and human health has also led her to work in the fitness industry as a club owner/manager.

Her current research focuses on climate change, coastal ecosystems, and sustainable livelihoods, and she is working as an engagement coordinator for the Australian Centre for Pacific Islands Research.


She is currently assisting on a project for the National Centre for Timber Durability and Design Life.
