In any life-threatening situation always call Emergency Services first via 000. Then alert SafeUniSC Security for immediate response, first aid and to direct emergency services to an incident location.

Security and Safety

SafeUniSC Security and Emergency Management ensures the safety and wellbeing of students, staff, and visitors by providing:

  • Personal safety escorts
  • Emergency call points
  • Security patrols
  • University SafeZone personal security app 
  • Security systems, including ID cards, Access control, CCTV, Locking and keying systems

We work closely with emergency services (Police, Fire, Ambulance) and lead emergency response efforts, including first aid, fire safety, and building evacuations.

Additionally, we focus on emergency planning, critical incident management, and special projects to enhance campus safety.

Safer Communities 

Safer Communities is a Student Wellbeing service offering free and confidential support to students who have experienced or witnessed behaviors that may cause fear, offence, or trauma. If you are concerned about any behavior, we are here to support you and encourage you to reach out.

SafeZone mobile app

As part of the University’s commitment to personal safety, staff and students can download a free mobile phone application called ‘SafeZone’ from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

In the event of an emergency, the app allows you to quickly share your location and details with the University security team who will be able to get the right assistance to you.

The University of the Sunshine Coast is committed to protecting our community and minimising the impact of any emergency occurring at the University. The Emergency Management Plan (EMP) is a vital element in planning for emergencies on our campuses. The EMP provides direction and guidance to minimise the impact of any emergency at the University.

Emergency procedures are implemented to support a coordinated and effective response to various incidents, ranging from medical emergencies to natural disasters. 


First aid

The University of the Sunshine Coast take safety seriously for students, staff and visitors.  The Safe UniSC Officers are trained in first aid and are ready to assist, please contact Safe UniSC on 5430 1168 for first aid support.  You can also attend the SafeUniSC office for first aid assistance. If you have minor first aid injuries you can locate the nearest First Aid Officer as per the list for all campuses via MyUniSC.

Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP)

A PEEP is designed for staff and students experiencing temporary or permanent mobility impairment, where they may require assistance during an emergency i.e. evacuating a building. To request support, please complete the PEEP form. Our staff will then assist in developing a personalised plan tailored to the individual's specific needs. These resources support staff engaging the services of a contractor or volunteer, to understand their obligations with respect to health and safety, and what is required to fulfil these obligations.

UniSC is committed to ensuring that lost property is handled efficiently and securely. We make every effort to reunite lost belongings with their rightful owners.
