Program Overview

This degree includes computer-based art and design, graphic design, web design, visual communication, information visualisation, desktop publishing, communication, and advertising. It will provide you with knowledge and skills geared to the requirements of the workplace, a feature that prospective employers value.

The Design and Communication program ensures you not only learn about design in both printed and electronic form, but also how design integrates with other areas such as advertising and communication.

Computer-based art and design (CBAD) is an integral part of the program. The two streams, CBAD Graphics/Imaging and CBAD Electronic Media, will provide you with the creative, conceptual and technical skills for a well-rounded career base.

Program Requirements and Notes

1. Students undertaking studies in CBAD who have not studied Art at senior level, or who do not have experience with drawing and visual communication are encouraged to enrol in ADN110 during their first year of study.

2. No more than 10 introductory courses are to be completed, including Core Courses, in the BA(Des&Comm).

3. No courses may be counted towards more than one major or one minor.

4. Some of the required introductory courses count towards some majors and minors.

5. A maximum of 6 Business or Science courses (76 units) can be included in the BA(Des&Comm).

6. An introductory level course has a number less than 200 in its course code. An advanced level course has a number greater than 200 and less than 400 in its course code.

# Students who have completed the lecture series associated with ADN211, ADN212, ADN215 or ADN216 up to and including Semester 2, 2001, are not eligible to enrol in ADN112.

* This program was formerly called the Bachelor of Arts (Design and Marketing). The structure of the Bachelor of Arts (Design and Communication) permits a minor in marketing to be undertaken.
