This course exposes students to the role of criminal profiling and investigative analysis within the Criminal Justice System. Individual, ecological and situational factors that help to identify offenders and prevent repeat offending are explored. Attention is given to key approaches and processes involved in criminal profiling, including assessing the offender, the offence(s), and the victim. Specific crimes are used to illustrate the application of these processes. The role, and challenges, of risk prediction, eyewitness and expert testimony are also considered.
