CSC200 Computer Organisation and Operating Systems

Not offered until Semester 1 2021 This course introduces the principles of computer organisation and data representation inside computers, and the basic concepts of operating systems. The course emphasizes on memory technology, including memory hierarchy and virtual memory management, and Input/Output (I/O) systems. The course also investigates fundamental concepts of operating systems and digital logic. The core objectives are to examine how a computer operates at the machine level, i.e., how the operating system and hardware cooperate, and to provide in-depth knowledge on hierarchy of memories, addressing techniques, memory organisation, internal processor structure and operation through symbolic assembly language examples.
