Contemporary design is grounded in a history of art, design and digital culture, this course demonstrates ways in which design today both draws on, and breaks with, traditions of the past. The course investigates how contemporary design practice and digital culture is situated within a broader history of image-making by examining various significant art and design movements, concepts and themes which have shaped the way that we use and interpret contemporary design. The course also considers differing approaches to design in the context of wider social, political, cultural and historical environments.
