Lost personal property
You can report lost personal property to Security using the online form.
Property reported lost is matched against property handed in so it can be returned.
You can also report lost personal items of value the Police online or by calling Policelink on 131 444.
Lost University property
Lost, misplaced or stolen items belonging to the University must be reported to Security as soon as possible. This includes items such as keys, identification cards, University IT hardware (e.g. phones and computers).
Reporting stolen property
Report any personal property suspected stolen whilst on University facilities to security immediately. All suspected stolen University Property must be reported to University Security immediately whether the property was stolen from University facilities or not.
You are also encouraged to report any suspected stolen valuable property to Police.
Stolen vehicles should be reported to the Police by calling Policelink on 131 444.
Found personal property
Found property can be handed in at each campus at the following locations:
- UniSC Sunshine Coast - SafeUniSC security office, Building J (24/7)
- UniSC Moreton Bay - SafeUniSC security office, Building A1 (24/7)
- UniSC Fraser Coast - Student Central, Building A (Business Hours)
- UniSC Gympie - Reception, Building A (Business Hours)
- UniSC Caboolture - Handed property to Security
- Dilli Village (K’Gari) - Caretaker’s residence
Property found at other facilities should be handed directly to Police.
Collecting found property
If your property has been found, collect it from campus locations above during business hours unless alternate arrangements are made.
You may be required to:
- prove that you own the property before it is returned to you,
- provide photo identification and contact information, and
- sign for release of the item.
NOTE: It is an offence to claim any property that is not yours knowingly or that you have no authority to claim.
How long is lost property held?
- Perishables such as food are thrown away and not held at our property points, as are the containers the food was held in.
- Water bottles, cooler bags and lunchboxes are held for no more than a week before they are disposed of.
- Valuable items are passed onto the police and other items will be disposed of according to university policy. If property is surrendered to Police, the details of the person finding the property will be provided to the police (If the finder requests this) so the finder can claim the property if the owner cannot be found.
- Personal keys are stored and, if not collected or identified within 1 month, will be destroyed.
- USB drives, due to the potentially sensitive or personal nature of material and potential cyber security risks, will not be inserted into UniSC computers. If they are not able to be clearly identified to an owner and collected within 1 month, they will be destroyed.
- Personal phones and computers not collected within a month are surrendered to Police.
- Bicycles
- Credit cards and non-Government ID Cards are held for no more than a week before being destroyed.
- Passports and Government ID is held for no more than a month before being returned to the issuing authority.
- Cash is held for a short time and then surrendered to the Police.
Other items are generally held for up to 2 months. All possible enquiries are made to reunite owners with their property before disposal or surrendered to the Police.
