Nyobie enrols to chase cosmetic nursing goal

A long-held ambition to work in the field of cosmetic medicine has set a former Gympie supermarket manager on the pathway to a Nursing Science degree at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Nyobie White of Amamoor has enrolled in the Bachelor of Nursing Science at USC Gympie next year as the first step to gaining post-graduate qualifications in cosmetic nursing.

Ms White, 36, said rapid growth in the beauty industry had led to growing demand for cosmetic nurses, who must first qualify as a registered nurse to work in Australia’s cosmetic medicine industry.

“I have a passion for the beauty industry, especially skincare, makeup and creating new looks,” Ms White said.

“Completing USC’s Bachelor of Nursing Science will allow me to enrol in a graduate diploma in cosmetic nursing.

“It will also give me qualifications and that I can use for a wide range of nursing jobs and the flexibility to work as a nurse overseas.”

After leaving Gympie’s James Nash High School in Year 11, Ms White worked in hospitality and the retail industry for several years, including a role as the manager of a global discount supermarket, before leaving to concentrate on raising her family.

“I intended to open my own hair and beauty business at home and had completed a diploma in beauty therapy and was half-way through a Certificate III in hairdressing when I decided to pursue my original career plan of cosmetic nursing,” she said.

“I am glad I was offered a place in the nursing program at the Gympie campus as I have heard such good reviews about USC Gympie and how it is regarded as having a real family environment.”

Applications remain open via QTAC for Nursing Science at USC Gympie and other full degree programs in Business Management, Marketing, Commerce, Accounting and Education.

Students also can complete the first year of a selection of degrees at Gympie before studying the remaining subjects at USC’s main campus at Sippy Downs. For details go to www.usc.edu.au/learn
