Jessica takes on second degree for love of nursing

Jessica Rimmington is a born carer, taking on a second degree so she can boost her medical skills to help those less fortunate in third world countries.

The 24-year-old from Elimbah has been accepted into a Bachelor of Nursing Science (Graduate Entry) at USC Caboolture.

“It’s fantastic to have study options in Caboolture,” Jessica said.

“It’s only a short drive from home to attend lectures and also gives me the option to take the train if I don’t feel like driving.”

A keen paddleboard enthusiast, Jessica completed a Paramedic Science degree with USC just over 12 months ago and said it was an easy choice to enrol with the university again.

“I wanted to gain a double degree to help hone my skill set further and boost my knowledge and understanding of the nursing discipline,” she said.

“Applying for the graduate entry degree means a shorter study time too, with some subjects already covered off which is great.

“I love how intimate USC is and really enjoyed more time with hands-on practicals during my last degree so decided to return to study nursing to afford myself even more opportunities in the medical world.

“Within the next few years I hope to be working overseas, helping where I can as a nurse in a third-world country or have gained full-time work as a paramedic or in an emergency ward as a registered nurse.”

There’s still time to apply to study at USC in Semester 1 2020.

The mid-January round of student offers was released online today by the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC), bringing to 4,775 the number of university hopefuls who have so far received offers to study at USC. This is up 3.1 percent on this time last year.

Offers to date include 2,090 to applicants from the Sunshine Coast (including Noosa Shire), 1,389 to residents of the Moreton Bay region, as well as 247 to Fraser Coast and 146 to Gympie residents.
