Emma proves she’s fit for business world, too

A Mooloolaba gym supervisor with a fitness diploma has launched her business career after graduating from USC with a near-perfect grade point average in her Bachelor of Business.

Emma Norman, of Alexandra Headland, moved to Australia from Sweden in 2015, initially for a year.

“When I completed my fitness diploma, I wanted to move forward in my career and decided to study at USC,” she said.

“I majored in Marketing because it is the perfect combination of creativity and science.

“A highlight was having my marketing report published in Viewpoint (the Australian Association of Social Marketing).

“I wrote the report for a subject called Marketing of Social Causes and the purpose was to research a social cause and develop an intervention plan to address it. My report was about social media’s influence on postpartum women’s body image.”

Emma gained a University Medal for Academic Excellence for achieving a grade point average of 6.88 out of 7 and now works as a business administration trainee at TAFE Queensland.

“While I was studying at USC, I worked as a gym supervisor at TAFE Queensland’s Mooloolaba campus. When I completed my degree in June 2020, TAFE Queensland took me on board full-time in business administration.

“It’s a large organisation, which means there is so much to learn and so many opportunities to progress. I am currently working in Student Services and with the marketing team, where I help with events, video shoots and recordings, as well as administrative tasks.

“I personally loved studying – both at USC and TAFE Queensland – so I really enjoy giving other students opportunities and experiences.”

Emma said the knowledge and understanding of business practices and processes gained during her degree was of great value in her new role.

“Above all, my USC achievements gave me confidence. They showed that I am capable of accomplishing so much more than I could have ever imagined prior to commencing my studies.”
