Scenario planning for tourism and events

Understand scenario planning and develop a scenario for your business

Designed for industry practitioners and government officials, this course will provide the foundational skills to help you build a nuanced understanding of scenario planning, and how to undertake scenario planning for your business. In this course, you will develop practical managerial skills that can be applied to any team or organisation. If you are currently working in a managerial role or have an ambition to move into supervision and have at least three years’ work experience, this course will provide you with how to plan for possible future scenarios.

Topics covered:

  • Background to scenario planning
  • Examples of scenario planning undertaken in tourism and events
  • Initial forays to scenario planning for your business
  • Steps/action plans needed to prepare for future scenarios

Meet the facilitator

Dr Aaron Tham is the Subject Component Lead in Tourism, Leisure, and Events, and the Capability Development Track Lead within the Indigenous and Transcultural Research Centre at the University of the Sunshine Coast. He has been involved with scenario planning with a range of organisations, including the Travel and Tourism Research Association Asia Pacific (TTRA APac) Chapter where he is the current President, the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) as one of its ambassadors, and the Committee for Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Legacy Taskforce as one of the members involved with designing mega event legacies. Aaron is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and is also the first Emerald Publishing Australasian ambassador. He is also the 2nd Vice Chair and Teaching and Learning Special Interest Group Co-Chair of the Council of Australasian Tourism and Hospitality Education.
