Scholarship applications for Study Period 1, 2026 are now open and will close on Saturday, 31 January 2026.
Applicants will be notified of the outcome by 27 February 2026.
The Political Deepfake Discovery Honours Scholarship is for high achieving students who are commencing in a one year Bachelor of Business (Honours) or Bachelor of Creative Industries (Honours) program at UniSC whose research interests and objectives are aligned with The Political Deepfake Discovery Honours project.
The Political Deepfake Discovery Honours project looks at political deepfakes and how people spot them, make sense of them, and react afterwards. It brings together ideas from behavioural science and communications to understand not just whether people can recognise a deepfake, but what they do next, fact-checking, searching for more information, sharing, commenting, or even remixing content in creative ways. By exploring these responses within real digital and media environments, the project aims to show how political deepfakes influence public conversations, shape people’s impressions, and move through today’s creative and communication networks.
Contacts (project team): Associate Professor Renee Barnes ([email protected]) and Associate Professor Rory Mulcahy ([email protected]).
Please Note: This scholarship is offered on a yearly basis through funds provided by the project team. If funding is not available in any given year, the scholarship will not be awarded.
