How UniSC’s world-class facilities will enhance your child’s learning

When it comes to your child's education, access to the best facilities can make all the difference. At UniSC, students aren’t just passively listening to lectures—they’re actively engaging in their learning through hands-on experiences in some of the most advanced and innovative spaces available. These state-of-the-art facilities are purposefully designed to simulate real-world environments across disciplines such as healthcare, engineering, creative industries and sport. It’s this active, immersive approach to learning that gives our students a genuine edge. Here’s a closer look at how these spaces help students thrive in their learning at UniSC.

Medical and health sciences: real-world practice

UniSC’s medical and health sciences facilities provide students with highly realistic, hands-on training. Nursing and midwifery students practice in state-of-the-art simulation labs, mimicking real hospital wards, which helps them build confidence and competence in patient care. These immersive environments give your child the chance to develop practical skills before stepping into real healthcare settings.

For paramedicine students, the experience is even more hands-on. They can practice emergency scenarios in a fully equipped on-road ambulance simulation, preparing them for real-life situations.

Engineering: from theory to practice

UniSC is home to cutting-edge engineering facilities that help students bridge the gap between theory and real-world application. Whether your child is studying civil, mechanical, electrical, or mechatronic engineering, they’ll have access to high-tech labs where they can bring their ideas to life.

In manufacturing laboratories with CNC machines, students can design and prototype projects, while the engineering training area provides a space for practical experiments, like fluid mechanics and pavement engineering. One of the standout features is the robotics and automation lab, where students learn to program robots and understand automation principles—skills highly relevant in today’s tech-driven world.

If you’re curious to see our Civil and Electrical Engineering labs in action, our Senior Lecturer in Geotechnical Engineering, Dr Adrian McCallum, offers a behind-the-scenes look at these labs and the cutting-edge equipment students use while studying Engineering at UniSC.

Creative industries: innovation and collaboration

UniSC’s Creative Industries precinct is where your child’s creativity can truly shine. This $5.5 million facility includes high-quality recording studios, video production spaces and a black box theatre for performance art. Students in music, theatre, film, and visual arts will have access to professional-grade spaces that encourage collaboration and innovation.

The MIT Fab Lab Maker Space is an exciting addition, giving students the tools to create prototypes and experiment with new technologies. The university’s Art Gallery further enhances the creative experience, offering both students and the public a space to engage with and appreciate art.

Sports and fitness: high-performance facilities

For students passionate about sports and fitness, UniSC offers exceptional facilities that support both their academic and athletic goals. The High-Performance Sport Precinct features an Olympic-standard 50-metre pool, a 25-metre pool, and an elite training gym. These facilities are used by top athletes, including the Sunshine Coast Lightning and Australian Cycling Academy, meaning your child will have the chance to train alongside some of the best.

The $24 million sports arena is another highlight, offering national-standard courts for basketball, futsal, netball, and more. It’s not just for university competitions—it’s also open to the community, giving your child ample opportunities to engage in high-level sports.

At our Moreton Bay campus, new purpose-built facilities are giving students even more opportunities to learn by doing. Nutrition students refine their culinary skills in a fully equipped, industry-standard commercial kitchen where they conduct food preparation and complete practical assessments. The campus is also home to lifestyle and performance nutrition Clinics, a student gym, and a new sports hall—providing a dynamic environment for both study and wellbeing, and helping students apply what they learn in meaningful, real-world contexts.

Interactive learning spaces: cutting-edge tech

UniSC doesn’t stop at traditional learning spaces. We also offer interactive visualisation spaces like the CAVE2™, a 320-degree immersive 3D environment that allows students to interact with complex data in a completely new way. This space is one of only four in the world and is used for teaching and learning, providing students with a unique opportunity to engage with their subjects in a deeply interactive way.

We’re also leading the way in robotics with the addition of the Unitree G1 Edu+ humanoid robot. The G1 allows students, especially in mechatronics and technology programs, to gain hands-on experience with AI, programming and control systems—bringing theory to life in a practical, dynamic way. Additionally, the Collaboration Studio allows students to work together using touch-enabled 3D panels, connecting their devices to a main display for a dynamic, shared learning experience.

At UniSC, your child will have access to world-class facilities that are designed to enhance their learning experience and set them up for success. These facilities aren’t just about fancy spaces—they’re about providing students with the hands-on experience they need to excel in their chosen fields. Whether they’re pursuing a career in healthcare, engineering, the arts, or sports, UniSC’s facilities offer unmatched opportunities to develop practical skills and gain invaluable experience.
