Law Honours Pathway

If you are considering an academic and / or a research career or a higher degree in research, you should consider taking the LLB Honours pathway. It develops skills in independent research and writing supported by additional study, and leads to an award of a higher level of qualification.

The LLB Honours pathway can be taken in all Law programs, including double degrees and graduate entry. You will complete an Honours component of 8 courses in your program at the higher level, comprising:

How to apply

Entry to the LLB Honours pathway is not automatic and will be by application. Applications are made towards the end of your penultimate year. With a timely application, you will be able to complete your program with Honours without extending the original end date for your studies.

For admission to LLB Honours, you will normally have a GPA of 6 in your LAW-coded courses, but you can apply if you have a GPA of at least 5.75. Your thesis topic must be one for which the School can provide academic supervision.

An application for the LLB Honours pathway must include:

  1. The proposed title (up to 20 words)
  2. The proposed supervisor, and
  3. A summary of the proposed research, including proposed methodologies and methods (up to 400 words).

An information session will be held towards the end of Semester 2 each year for students who are interested in the LLB Honours pathway.
