Bonus schemes


Access USC is a Special Entry Admission Pathway established to encourage participation from eligible applicants who have experienced educational disadvantage and/or who have excelled in academic and sporting endeavours.

Under the Access USC scheme, domestic students applying for undergraduate programs will be eligible for bonuses to be applied to their OP score or selection rank.

All bonuses will be applied by QTAC. Applicants may be awarded a maximum of six (6) bonus ranks across all six USC bonus schemes specified below:

QTAC Educational Access Scheme

The QTAC Educational Access Scheme (EAS) is for current and former secondary students who experience difficult circumstances that adversely impact on their studies.

You can apply for EAS as part of your QTAC application. Applicants assessed under the Educational Access Scheme will be eligible for up to six (6) bonus ranks or three (3) OP scores.

Elite Athlete Bonus

Applicants who are elite athletes may be awarded a bonus of up to three (3) OP scores or six (6) selection ranks. In order to be eligible for this bonus the applicant must be:

  • recognised by the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) or professional player's association
  • a member of a national senior squad from an Athlete Career and Education (ACE) support sport
  • in a state or national level squad in open or age level competition
  • in a state or national level development squad
  • a coach or referee within national or international level competitions

USC welcomes all elite athletes and aims to accommodate the demands of their sport in relation to study. USC has a Centre of Excellence in the Faculty of Science, Health, Education and Engineering, accredited by the National Sport Science Quality Assurance Program (NSSQA). Applicants for this bonus should complete the Access USC Bonus Scheme — Elite Athlete Bonus Application Form (PDF 340KB) * and submit it together with documentary evidence to the Co-ordinator, Scholarships and Access in Student Services and Engagement.

Regional Preference Bonus

The Regional Preference Bonus will be awarded to applicants who reside or attend school in the Sunshine Coast region or in regions outside the Sunshine Coast region classified as "outer regional", "Remote" or "Very Remote" under the Australian Standard Geographical Remoteness Classification (ASGC) will be awarded a bonus of one (1) OP score or two (2) selection ranks.

Disadvantaged School Bonus

Applicants who are current school leavers from a school that has been designated as disadvantaged will be awarded a bonus of one (1) OP score or two (2) selection ranks.

Smith Family Bonus

Applicants who are participants in the Smith Family Learning for Life program will be awarded a bonus of one (1) OP score or two (2) selection ranks.

Applicants indicate that they are participants in the Smith Family Learning for Life program through the Educational Access Scheme section of their QTAC application.

Year 12 Subject Bonus

Current Year 12 school applicants who have completed either of the school subjects specified below or the International Baccalaureate or interstate equivalents will be awarded a bonus of one (1) OP score or two (2) selection ranks:

  • Maths C
  • Languages other than English (LOTE)
