About the Sustainability Research Centre

Established in 2007, the Sustainability Research Centre conducts transdisciplinary research on regional environmental change and helps regions transition towards sustainability.

We are committed to educating the next generation of sustainability scholars and leaders: the Centre’s researchers include 46 higher degree by research students, who help to lead the teaching of USC’s undergraduate major and minor in sustainability.

The Centre is led by Co-Directors, Prof Bill Carter and Prof Steven Underhill, with the support of a four-person external Advisory Board.

Our mission

The Sustainability Research Centre strives to solve persistent and emerging issues related to the social and environmental nexus at local through global scales, using innovative, transdisciplinary applications of social, economic, and environmental sciences to foster long-term environmental and social resilience.
