The Thompson Institute is developing a future researchers program to provide young people and schools the opportunity to gain experience and understanding in neuroscience research and mental health.
If you are a young person aged 13 to 18 years old please register your interest. Schools can also register their interest for outreach opportunities.
Frontiers for Young Minds
Frontiers for Young Minds is an online open-access scientific journal written by scientists and reviewers by young people.
Professor Daniel Hermens is Associate Editor, Neuroscience for Frontiers for Young Minds. In this role Professor Hermens can provide opportunity for young people interested in science to become young reviewers for Frontiers for Young Minds.
Young people can be an individual young reviewer, or combine as young minds classroom reviewers (school involvement required).
The Thompson Institute provided an opportunity for young people to be part of a Live Review panel at the Society for Mental Health Research conference 2018. Check out the below video.

High school outreach
The translation of evidenced-based research is essential in broadening understanding of youth mental health.
LABS outreach is designed to stimulate interest and encourage young people interested in neuroscience and mental health.
Over time LABS researchers are keen to build outreach opportunities for schools.
- Talks on a range of topics related to neuroscience and youth mental health.
- Collaborations with science classes. For example, Frontiers for Young Minds classroom reviewers.
- Develop resource materials, in collaboration with school need.
- Collaborate or develop research projects around well-being and youth mental health.
