Sunshine Coast Lightning

USC is a proud part-owner of the Sunshine Coast's first national elite sports team - the Sunshine Coast Lightning.

The team was formed in late 2016. USC and the Melbourne Storm NRL club were successful bidders for one of three new clubs in a revamped national netball competition.

The players train and play home games at USC's world-class sports stadium.

Competition highlights

The Sunshine Coast Lightning were champions in the Suncorp Super Netball Grand Finals in 2017 and 2018. They were runner-up in 2019 but Lightning finished the 2019 season as minor premiers after winning 12 of its 14 matches in the regular season.

Competition runs from April to September each year.

USC will have teams competing in both women’s and mixed netball at the UniSport Nationals Division 2 carnival that starts on Monday 8 July.
